Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve is one of our favorite days of the year to be in church. For Mommy, it is a day of joyous celebration and wonderful traditions. In fact, Mommy usually attends multiple services on Christmas Eve. The traditional candlelight service, where we all sing "Silent Night," is one of Mommy's favorites.

But this year, we didn't attend that service. We went to the family-friendly service in the gym instead. It was the middle of the day, not dark at all when we headed into the gym. But though it wasn't a "traditional" service, it was a great way for our family to celebrate Jesus' birth.

The children and young adults of St. Matthew put on a wonderful production called "Star of Wonder." Uncle Davey even had a role as Joseph. Micah was mesmerized! He stood on his chair for most of the program and danced along to the songs. When there was a section of speaking parts, he leaned over to Mommy and asked, "When is it time for the music again?" What a great way to bring the story to life for Micah!

It obviously made an impression on him because a week and a half later, he said to Mommy at breakfast, "Remember that girl?" ["Girl" sounds more like "girdle" when he says it.] ... "Remember that girdle at church? She said 'cow, cow, cow!'" Finally Mommy realized he was talking about the "shooting star" who had said "pow, pow, pow," as she ran across the stage in her cowgirl boots and hat.

It was a wonderful year to experience Christmas through Micah's 2 year old eyes. He enjoyed putting up the pieces of the advent calendar each day (the cows ended up in the sky, along with the stars). And he keeps asking to read the Christmas story again. We hope that he and Henry both continue to grow in their knowledge and understanding of this little Baby who was born to be the Savior of us all!

After church, we got a few photos with cousin Calla, who looked so sweet in her Christmas dress. The one above was really the best "ideal" shot. But the others here tell a great story as well. There's a lot of love shared between these three!
