Christmas Day

Merry Christmas! Christmas Day started with Daddy and Micah going out to shovel about 6 inches off the front steps. This was Micah's first chance to play in a decent amount of snow this winter. Thankfully, the snowsuit from last year still (barely) fits (though it is a bit of an art to get his hands through the arm holes with his mittens on... and we still haven't figured out how to get his thumbs in the right spot of the mittens).

Micah loved being outside with Daddy, "helping" him to shovel... he used his sand shovel, the one we take to the beach, so we're not sure how effective he was. But anyway, it's hard to shovel when you don't have the use of an opposable thumb! The boys considered making a snowman but it wasn't good "packing snow" so they took a walk around the property instead. Micah's description: "Daddy fell down in the woods when he carried me. It was fun!"

Once inside, Micah had time to open his three gifts under the tree before we headed off to church. (He's still wearing his pj's in these photos because he wore them outside to shovel as well!)

Micah enjoyed opening his presents but was a little disappointed that we didn't have time to play with them right away.

He got a box of colored pencils (since he always wants to draw with Mommy's pens & pencils), a box of Mega Blocks (large, Lego-style blocks), and extra tracks for his Thomas the Train set.
We knew these toys would provide hours of fun play and creativity! (Plus, Daddy said he always wished he had a Lego set as a kid.) Daddy was a bit irritated though, when they played with the blocks later and Micah kept knocking down his towers!

After the gift opening, we headed off to church for the Christmas Day service. Beautiful music there to enhance our celebration! Next, we had t-bone steaks at Grandma's house for dinner before heading home for nap time.

In the evening, after enjoying his toys, Micah settled down on the couch to read the Christmas story from his Bible with Daddy. For some reason, Daddy put on his head lamp to read the book (perhaps this proves Mommy's theory the wattage in our living room light is too low). Now, when we read the Children's Bible (a.k.a "Christmas book"), Micah thinks we need to use the head lamp! But it was the perfect way to end our day - remembering the reason why we celebrate... the birth of Jesus, our Savior!
