One Friday we decided to declare it "Art Day." We set aside our usual homework, spread a drop cloth over the dining room table, and everyone worked on a predetermined art project. Helen chose to paint unicorns and Pegasi (Google tells me that is the plural form of "Pegasus," though my spellcheck isn't a fan).
My project was a paint-by-number bird piece also. It was fun to put on some music and just enjoy our own projects together for a while (though some grew tired of their painting sooner than others).
Not on art day, though perhaps inspired by it the next week, Henry designed his own 3-D bird sculptures. It's fun to allow our creativity to have free-reign sometimes (and the kids are fans of an unexpected homework-free day as well!).
