At 22 Months and Counting...

Well, Micah, here's what you're into at 22 months old...

- You have always been an observant child. Mommy used to listen to NPR while driving home from work. But these days, you give her an education by pointing out American flags, Jeeps, vans, big trucks, and basketball hoops.

- You still love music. Tonight you were snuggled up with Daddy, watching Willie Nelson on Austin City Limits. After each song, you clapped with the crowd. You really like guitars but banjos still seem to be your favorite. When Uncle Davey was home during the summer, you often asked him to play his piano for you.

- You also still love books. Lately we've been going to the Library and you love to sit on Mommy's bed to "read library books."

- You have always had a good memory for names, even Japanese names. You like having visitors at our house and when you wake up from a nap, you ask if there are any "fun friends" at our house. You love being the one to give a tour of the house - especially your "new green room" which Daddy painted over the 4th of July.

- You talk about yourself in the third person. Pronouns are a bit confusing... it might be due to the fact that one of your little buddies is named "Yu."

- You are interested in the ABC song. (You can get through the first 7 or so letters.) But your favorite letter is "R." We have coasters on our kitchen table with an "R" which you tell me is for "Mommy Roe, Daddy Roe, Baby Roe, Micah Roe and Poppa Roe." You can also find the "R" on the raisin package (raisins are currently your favorite snack... you even ate them off the floor when you spilled them at church tonight).

- You think you're pretty funny. You tell your "Uncle Josh, don't do it joke" to everyone you meet - it's your ice breaker. You also think it's hilarious to call other people "Uncle" (as in, Uncle Poppa, Uncle Daddy, Uncle Mommy, Uncle Miss Jan...). But when someone calls you "Uncle Micah," you seriously tell them, "No, just Micah."

- You talk... a lot. Many people comment to us about how much you talk. You probably say double the amount of words your Daddy does in one day!

- When you went to the Dr with Mommy ("Doctor check baby") a 2 year old girl in the waiting room asked you how old you are... you told her you are three (not sure if you were trying to impress her or if it was just because three is your favorite number...)

- You know the name of your street (Fontanelle), though when asked you sometimes say it, and sometimes say "blah" - your best impression of Mommy's impression of the Italian pronunciation of our street name.

- You use the word "actually" a LOT. And Mommy has come to realize how much she says it... so maybe that's why you use it so much. You also say "that's enough" often.

- You like talking on the phone, or pretending to talk on the phone. You usually want to call Uncle Ben, Uncle Josh, or Uncle Levi.

- When asked what to name your baby brother, you answered, "Just Baby." When we reminded you that all the babies we know have another name besides "baby" (Like Baby Josh, Baby Natalie, and Baby Daniel), you decided we should call your brother Baby Uncle Ben.

- You love playing ball (though you correct Mommy if she says "ball"... "Actually - BASEball"). In the mornings, you and Daddy often play catch with the "crazy ball" in the dining room while you wait for Mommy.

- You still love to be a helper. In fact, you think that Grandma can't do laundry or unload the dishwasher without your help. Hopefully you'll continue this helper role when your baby brother is born!

- You know it is bad to throw things on the floor when you're eating - "not nice" you say... but you still continue to do it! (Actually, this drives your Momma crazy!)

- You are a very sensitive to others' feelings - you notice when another kid cries and talk about why they are sad.

- You pray very long prayers, thanking Jesus for many things - from the people in your life to things like shadows and triangles.

- You just started to say, "I love Baby" when you hug Mommy's tummy.

- You love to snuggle!

- You are an endless source of entertainment and joy for your parents!

  1. I love shadows and triangles too! That Micah is one sweet little boy!! Loved reading this post and reminded me that I should probably do one for Seany. They do change so quickly! There was a time when I think Ali Jane started every sentence with "Actually". <3 Say hi to baby uncle ben for me! ;-)
