Schmidt Vacation, Day Two: Playing Around (July 13, 2015)

Day two of our Schmidt Vacation and Helen was ready to explore the grass.
The cabins are situated in a U-shape with a small play area in the middle. The little swing set always gets lots of use during the week we are there.
Micah, Henry, and Gibson, took turns on the slide. Almost every single morning our kids were the first out in the play area, ready to go, along with Gibson and his sisters.
After a trip over to Grandma's cabin to play bubbles, we stopped at Uncle Paul's cabin, next door to Grandma, because cousin Grace came out with her pet bird, Blue. Blue is a "paralet" - a mini parakeet.
The kids were all intrigued, but Henry was the most impressed.
When Gracie offered them a chance to hold her bird, only Henry was brave enough to give it a shot.
He stood very calm and still as he held Blue on his hand.
He didn't get flustered when Blue started to climb up his arm.
When Blue made it up to Henry's shoulder, he seemed surprised.
He wasn't sure whether he liked that or not, but he still held still and didn't bother Blue.
When we asked if he was done, he nodded "yes!"
After dinner at the main eating area (a bunch of picnic tables we pull together), we put the two little girls down for a chance to get to know one another.
Sadie is just over a month older than Helen. We have been praying for her a lot as she was born with many health issues. In fact, we were not sure whether she would survive her birth. But seeing her at our vacation was truly a blessing and a testimony to God's grace!

There are photos of the mommies of these two girls as little ones on Schmidt Vacation together! (Mommy's cousin Corrie, Sadie's mom, is about 1 year older than Mommy.)

Helen really loved taking her turn in the infant swing. She seems to like the feeling of the wind blowing on her face.

After dinner, we played some shuffleboard with Grandpa. He remains as competitive as ever!
A little break from shuffleboard for Helen to pose with Aunt Jamie.

At 96, Grandpa is going strong!

Micah got a ride on Uncle Randy's boat this day - and even had the opportunity to take a turn at the wheel!
Micah is interested in most any kind of sport. On this day, he and Aunt Lynice took on Uncle Ben and Calla in badminton. (It's a rather slow game with a couple of four year olds!)

Helen was just the cheering section for the sports activities around her. She did get her hands on a soccer ball, which she found exciting.

So far, so good for this little one's first Schmidt Vacation. She got to be outside a whole lot and get a taste of the UP grass (literally). Perhaps this week will turn out to be her favorite of the year, just like for her big brother Micah.
