Euchre Lesson, "The Throw Up School," Outdoors in the Spring: April 6-13, 2015

Easter Monday was a family day at our house. Grandma and Poppa, Uncle Josh's family, Uncle Andy's family, and Great Grandpa Schmidt came to hang out. Calla and Micah helped to make the deviled eggs from the Easter eggs we had colored on Good Friday.
Then Uncle Josh taught Micah how to play Euchre, the card game of the Schmidts. This day made a big impression on Micah. He asks to play the game every time we see Grandpa Schmidt, and he always calls it, "the game Uncle Josh taught me." It's pretty special to have a godfather who takes such interest and patience in interacting with you. Micah is blessed!

Meanwhile, Helen got an opportunity to bond with Grandma - this was a big step for her to spend a significant amount of time with someone other than Mom or Dad since her surgery. (Mom did hide in the kitchen during this time - because if she had seen her, she would want Mom to hold her. So Mom had to zoom in to capture the moment.)

On Wed we decided to take a family trip to the playground at Spencer Elementary School. While walking from the parking lot, Daddy heard a noise and turned around to discover Henry, who was walking behind him, throwing up. Henry had never thrown up before in his life and wasn't quite sure what was happening. We soon realized that he had picked up the germs that took down most of Aunt Jen's family on Easter. But that didn't stop our little man from enjoying his day at the playground (once he took off his puke-covered jacket). From that moment on, a legend was born in our family; every time we drive by Spencer Elementary, Henry points out, "That's the school where I threw up!" or "That's my throw up school!"
Since he appeared ok for the moment, we decided to let the boys play for a bit.
Helen enjoyed the time outdoors as well.
A pretty good climber, despite his first ever puking episode.
His legs were just barely long enough to make it to the top of the "fireman pole" (with Daddy's help).

And then he could ride the pole back down to the ground.
More Helen and Mommy.
Digging in the dirt. AND Daddy playing on the toys as well.
When we got home, Henry threw up three more times. So it seems he wasn't done after all.  And then the next day, the diarrhea started for him - and Micah. But Micah still managed to put together three of his puzzles all by himself. He was quite proud of his accomplishment and asked Mom to take photos.

Meanwhile, Henry put "Baby Charlotte" to bed with Shaun the Sheep.
Things seemed to clear up by Friday, so we decided to go ahead with our plans to visit Grandma and Poppa Roe's house. Our hope was to see the new twin cousins. But on Sat morning the boys still had runny noses. So we put it off a day, thinking we'd see the babies on Sunday, if everyone seemed healthy enough. In the meantime, we played at Grandma's house, where Micah gave Helen a concert.
Like the boys, she definitely enjoys music.

Helen hung out with Aunt Victory for a little while (before wanting Mom again, of course).
Micah taught Uncle Kenny how to play War. And some of us enjoyed going to get ice cream.
Ice cream with Aunt Vic!
This was supposed to be the silly pose, but the ice cream was too distracting.
Unfortunately, after dinner, cousin Harrison threw up. Then, about 11:30pm, Henry threw up in the crib after everyone had gone home (maybe we shouldn't have let him eat all that ice cream!). So it was a scramble to clean him up and do laundry at Grandma's house. We decided to leave soon after breakfast, since we knew there was no way we wanted to be in contact with the twins that day.
So, we spent the day at home, enjoying the spring weather. Micah allowed Henry his first solo drive in the truck.

He was super thrilled to be able to drive!
The boys played Frisbee in the front yard.

Teaching Henry to throw a Frisbee.
Meanwhile, Helen had her chance to sit in the back of the truck.

Don't worry - we didn't allow Henry to drive while Helen was in there!

Micah found a good spot for digging and was completely content to play there for a while (until Daddy informed Mommy that this area with the "good dirt" was where he had just recently planted grass seed - oops).

And we capped off the day with a spring-time walk through the woods.
Helen sure loves to be outdoors.
The girls.
Finally, we ended our weekend with our first dinner of the year out on the patio. Hooray for spring!
