You know, stay-at-home mommies can have "Mondays" also. We had a rough start to our Monday morning when craft time went sour. Micah wanted to help Mommy cut some paper and so she got him his child safety scissors. Then, she decided to move the boys into the kitchen from the dining room, since Henry wanted to participate as well. As she left them alone for 90 seconds to get the craft table cloth, the boys were engrossed in something, both looking down. Upon her return, Mommy discovered what had been so interesting - Micah used the safety scissors to cut the fabric on the dining room chair. Mommy was NOT impressed (and a bit at a loss of how to impress the gravity of the situation on the 3 year old who was not acting maliciously, just curious about what would happen). Recently, Micah received a hand-me-down bank from Uncle David. He enjoyed putting his money into the different sections (savings, spending, church) and had been asking when he could go to the store to use up that spending money. So Mommy told him he may have to pay for the repairs on the chair from his bank. With a delighted look on his face, Micah exclaimed, "Great! I've been wanting to spend my money on something!" So much for that idea...
Thankfully, the day got better when we moved on to salmon fishing down the stairs. Micah informed us after his first round, "I got skunked! I didn't catch anything." But his second try yielded an impressive 100 fish!Oh, and notice Henry's dinosaur shirt - this day Henry insisted on wearing the dinosaur shirt, marking the first time he has ever had an opinion on his clothes!
After the boys went to bed, Mommy experienced deja vu when she and Daddy began painting the kitchen. Braxton Hix while painting... seems like the only time we paint is when Mommy is pregnant. Nothing like a little addition to spur on the home improvements. (Most people make it a priority to get a nursery ready before baby; we took this time to push to get our kitchen done!)
On Tuesday, we made a morning visit to our Brighton Library. Micah always likes to start at the computers and this time enjoyed "reading" The Boy Who Cried Wolf (a story we've talked about but never read).
For the first time, Henry figured out that he could touch the colors on the screen and make something happen! Of course, we also borrowed a pile of books (Daddy had requested Curious George since he is getting VERY tired of reading our Curious George stories over and over!).Back at home, Micah helped Mommy make zucchini bread during Henry's nap time(we had shredded up the zucchini we got from Poppa's garden the day before). Micah really enjoys being a helper in the kitchen, especially when we bake. He likes to sample EVERY ingredient. And, of course, insists on licking off the beater, spatula, and bowl.
When Daddy came home, the boys helped him make a campfire by collecting sticks from the yard. And there was more painting in the kitchen after bedtime.
On Wednesday, Daddy left at 5:30am for a one-day trip to NC. Meanwhile, we decided to try out a new library - the Lyon Twp story time. It was a much smaller group than at the Brighton Library (where you have to get there early or you won't get a space). Micah, in the yellow shirt, enjoyed the activities very much.
Henry was a little more timid, sticking close to Mommy. But we did have fun and might go back in the fall (they break during Aug) after Baby Sister comes since all ages are welcome (though Micah was relieved to hear that the bigger kids there would most likely be in school in the fall). On the way home, we passed by an elementary school with a playground we hadn't been to before, so we decided to stop. As we got out of our car, another mother told us the playground was really dirty (all the structure was covered in a layer of something - perhaps they had just put down new mulch?). But, naturally, that didn't phase our boys in the least!
They do love being outdoors!
When we got home, Mommy's greatest joy was overhearing Micah giggle hysterically as he looked at one of the new library books ("Olivia Forms a Band") by himself. As Henry went down for his nap, he asked, "Tomorrow? Davey?" We were definitely looking forward to a quick visit to MI by Mommy's younger brother David who was planning to be in a wedding over the weekend. We all needed naps that day - though Mommy's came in the form of falling asleep while reading library books... After Daddy came home, we finished moving the furniture around between the boys' room and sister's new room, in preparation for her arrival soon. And that night the boys wore their new Japanese pants for bed. They had great fun blowing their trumpets and jumping off the fireplace hearth together. It's fun to see them interacting as much as they are these days. Hopefully they can keep each other entertained when Mommy has to take care of Baby Sister!
Thursday brought a wonderful mini "Kitten" reunion when Becca (Pollex) Krey visited us (she had been a missionary with Mommy in Tisovec, Slovakia). She is back from the Dominican Republic, staying with family in Windsor, in order to deliver her baby at the University of Michigan. This is the third time we have had simultaneous pregnancies, with our kids being less than a month apart each time! We enjoyed our short visit immensely, Micah especially as he learned a few knock-knock jokes from Becca's dad!
The boys helped Mommy switch Micah's clothes over to the new boys' room and were rewarded with a special treat for lunch - making our own pizzas. Both boys were able to participate in this creative act and enjoyed being able to eat their own work.
Micah's is the one with all the meat on it (his daddy would be so proud!).
In the afternoon, we went to Walled Lake for Chit Chat Club and Micah decided to try out what he had seen in the "Curious George Rides a Bike" book when we stopped at Grandma's house - riding a bike backwards. He actually did manage to figure out how to move the bike a little in this manner.
Later, he and Sayu-chan, one of the girls from CCC, ran all over the soccer field to chase butterflies with Grandma's net. They were not successful... Micah also learned "rock, paper, scissors" from Chisaki at CCC.
After our schedules didn't align on Thurs, we were able to finally see Uncle Davey on Friday. The boys enjoyed playing with their fun-loving uncle. Micah played him a few original songs on Grandma's guitar.
Henry also wanted to play music with Uncle Davey - on the old Fisher Price tape player David had found when he packed up to move out of the house. It has been Henry's favorite toy at Grandma's ever since.
And Micah shared the fireman hats with Davey.
Back at home, the boys enjoyed the nice weather with mint water (from the mint plants we transplanted from Uncle Josh's house) on the patio. Micah was excited to be able to pour the water using his new pitcher and cups from Mrs. Hunter.
Henry was happy to drink from a "big boy cup" - though after taking a few sips, he promptly poured the water on the patio. Why does this boy pour/drop/throw everything on the ground these days?!
The weekend brought - guess what- more painting. Micah insisted on having an opportunity to help out, so he got to paint the area between the cabinet and the sliding door in the kitchen. Now he can always look at that spot and remember he painted there. Lots of little moments make up our weeks at home together. We are thankful that Mommy can be home with the boys and we can make many more memories together!
