This was the perfect place to take our little climber for his birthday (especially since it was very cold outside that morning). They had a special toddler area that enabled him to climb safely...
and continue to hone those great walking skills. Henry was happy to try out the slide, first with Daddy's help...
and then on his own. Henry really enjoyed all the climbing!
We invited cousins Calla and Albert to join the fun that day. Calla loved the bigger slide!
Micah was a little more cautious about all the climbing at first, but warmed up when he saw the basketball hoop (like father, like son)! That's him in the striped shirt below (decent form for a three year old -must be all the time we practice ball in the living room!).
We shared lunch with Grandma & Poppa Moldy and Uncle Andy & Aunt Heather. What an enjoyable day for our active little boy!
On Henry's actual birthday, we enjoyed a day at home (Mommy had the day off). It was great to do whatever Henry wanted to do that day - and you can see a theme of eating...
We served Henry all his favorite foods, including grapes and cheese that day. He insists upon feeding himself and is getting rather good with fork and spoon (when we put the food on it for him).He also continues to put everything else in his mouth, including these Easter eggs, which are some of his favorite things to play with these days. Mommy recently noticed his first two molars coming in on top, so maybe that's why so much goes into his mouth.
After Daddy came home from work, we enjoyed cake together. Henry's birthday cake was a special Japanese banana cake that Mommy baked for the first time, with Micah's help (we ended up going through a few extra eggs.... Micah loved seeing Mommy separate the yolk and whites - and then tried to be helpful by adding the yolk into the bowl later... oops!).
Henry seemed to enjoy eating the cake quite a bit, even if it didn't quite end up tasting like the original version Mommy's friend Chihiro had made. A last minute addition of icing helped sweeten it up and the result was pretty good.
This is Mommy's favorite of Henry's faces - where he wrinkles up his nose. Henry is developing a pretty good sense of humor, much to our delight. There is definitely a lot of laughter in the Roe house!
Below is Henry's experience eating the birthday cake. The icing and Henry's good eating habits don't provide the stereotypical first birthday cake and frosting mess, but he did enjoy it. And maybe this bodes well for his future wife with their wedding cake?
At any rate, we are so thankful for this wonderful, funny, happy little boy. He is all boy for sure, but still very affectionate, loving to snuggle with stuffed animals and his mommy. He loves reading books, is developing his communication skills ("woof" was his first word, followed by "uh-oh"), and will surely be telling us all jokes in no time. How blessed we are to have our happy and healthy Henry! Happy first birthday indeed!
