After the trip to Kensington Park on Sunday to enjoy the petting zoo with Grandma, Grandpa, Uncle Andy, Aunt Heather, and Calla, we headed back to Grandma's house for dinner and cake. Micah hasn't really had much in the line of sweets before, so we wondered what he would think. And his experience with finger food is usually limited to things like Cheerios and cheese chunks, so we knew it might be fun.
After singing "Happy Birthday" we got a few photos with Micah's birthday guest - his cousin Calla. She started off the sweets by giving him a birthday hug and kiss (he was a bit shy).
Then it was finally time to dig in. Initially, Micah wasn't really sure what to do. We gave him a couple of bites with the fork, so he would know it was something good to eat. He was pretty neat about it at the start.
Once he hit the whipped cream, it got a little more interesting.
And in the end, while some of it ended up on the floor, he was handing his bowl back to Grandma to ask for a second piece (oh, he is just like his dad!).
We did get a video of things once he started getting into it...
After cake, it was time to open the presents. The act of opening wasn't too exciting for Micah (hopefully we can work on that before Christmas). So he had to have a little help from Grandpa to get him started.
It got a little better as time went on and there were toys to be found and played with.
Micah and Calla played "peek-a-boo" with the blanket that Aunt Heather made for Micah.
All in all, it was a wonderful day. We were so thankful to have two happy kids who got along and enjoyed the activities. For a whole year our family has been blessed by the little guy that God has given us. We are so grateful to be given the opportunity to be Micah's parents!
Aw! What a cutie!!! I love the cake video! So fun to watch him! Also love the picture of the kissing cousins! So wonderful to have two so close in age! Happy Birthday Micah!!!
