Isaiah's Birthday Party (Minus Isaiah)

The Roes are a big family (understatement). Jacob is one of nine kids. So you can imagine what it's like when they all get together with their spouses, significant others, children, and a few family friends (it's more like there are ten kids in the family if you count friend Jason and his wife Shannon - they come to all the family functions, so they really are like family!). Having so many people in the family means there are a lot of birthdays to celebrate. So Momma Roe has resolved this by having monthly birthday parties - whoever has a birthday in that month gets celebrated when we all get together.

The only one who has a birthday in March is Isaiah. However, he's currently in Wisconsin for a job. Yet, it was New Years when Micah last saw his grandparents, so we decided to make the trip over to the west side of Michigan for the weekend anyway. Once we made the plans to come, the others decided to come hang out at Grandma and Poppa Roe's on Sunday afternoon... soon it became a real party! In fact, everyone was there except Natalie (she had to work), Great-Grandma, Isaiah's son Logan, and birthday boy Isaiah. Still, we had a really fun time, and no one had to endure the Roe Family version of "Happy Birthday" (think as incredibly off-key and as obnoxiously loud as you can imagine).
With Uncle Lyle

Micah really enjoyed seeing so many of his relatives. He was happy to be passed around and held by many of his aunts and uncles. He got lots of lovin' this weekend!
Aunt Beth (& future cousin Jackson)
It's fun to see the cousins together, especially knowing they will enjoy growing up together. Heidi, the oldest, is the only girl (so far). But she doesn't seem to mind hanging out with the boys. I'm sure she'll keep them in line!

Cousin Carson is all boy - at 2 1/2, he's the oldest of the boy cousins, and will surely be the ringleader of a lot of adventures as they grow! Hanging out with Micah gives him a little taste of what it will be like when his baby brother is born in April!

But the highlight of the weekend for Micah was probably when Poppa brought out his guitar. Micah has always disliked getting his diaper changed. At the beginning, he would scream when placed on the changing table. Thankfully, it's gotten a bit better as he's gotten older. And one of the keys to that is music! We usually play a "music box" while he's getting his diaper changed at home or at Grandma Moldy's. So when Micah started to cry about getting his diaper changed this weekend, Poppa brought out his guitar and started singing. Micah was mesmerized! I'm thinking we're going to have to get that boy a musical instrument - once he has better control over his hands. Listening to his Poppa play was a pretty neat bonding moment!

Can't wait for our next visit out to Hartford to see our Roe Family!
