Author Access - Kenard Pak

Read Aloud Revival is one of Mom's go-to homeschooling resources. As premium members, we are able to join the monthly "Author Access" - where we get to sit in on a live Zoom chat with a real author and/or illustrator (we were doing Zoom before it was a pandemic necessity!). In September, we had a session with Kenard Pak, where he demonstrated how he creates the beautiful artwork for his picture books. We checked out a number of his books from the library, including "Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn" and "The Hundred Year Barn" (that one was Mom's favorite... and bittersweet as our Schmidt Family Barn is being torn down this fall). Of course, if you ask the kids, they think the best part is the snacks. We always try to have a collection of special treats for this occasion, things we might not get to enjoy every day. This time, Mom brought out fancy Japanese dessert forks, which the kids hadn't seen before and thought were the bee's knees to stab at slices of banana and strawberries. And, in honor of the Autumn themed book we focused on, we drank our fresh apple cider.
