November 23-27, 2015 - Henry's 3rd Birthday & Thanksgiving

Life with a toddler is full of new discoveries and learning experiences. And messes. Lots of messes.

Monday we met our friends the Fairbanks (Barrett, Lucy, and Miss Carrie) and Miss Karie A for a play date at the indoor playground at 2/42 church in Brighton. Miss Karie is just like a big kid and enjoyed climbing with our kiddos.

 Micah attempted the climbing wall.
Helen pulled herself up onto the trampoline and was ready to give it a go.
This shot just captures the joy of jumping for a girl whose in love with learning how to use her legs.

Picnic lunch together with all the crew.

Lucy enjoyed being with Karie; she wasn't shy at all!
Lucy is still working on being able to walk but she can knee crawl (just using her knees, not her hands) amazingly quickly. It's rather entertaining to watch her go as she chases a soccer ball around the field.

Now on to the downstairs play structure, where Helen discovered another place to climb - the toddler slide.
She figured out the system pretty quickly.
Then Lucy decided to join the fun on the slide.

Monday night the boys prepared scrambled Easter eggs.

Tuesday morning before we headed up to the library, Mommy happened upon this lovely scene of the older brother "reading" to the younger brother. Both were completely engrossed in the book.
That day we started learning about the Great Wall of China after discussing the song "How Great is Our God," and how God is bigger than the biggest wall and stronger than any wall (and yet, Henry reminded us, God can hold tiny babies in His hand). So we watched a few videos about how the Great Wall of China was built.
We joined a Thanksgiving class at the library Tuesday, just a couple days before Thanksgiving.
Reading some Thanksgiving books (of course).
 A parachute game.

Pin the feather on the turkey.

And making some fall crafts. Helen was cute dancing off to the side in pink. But Mommy loved seeing Henry work well together with a new friend.

Tuesday night Micah helped clean his bathroom for the first time.
A little concert in the living room Wed morning.
We enjoyed okonomiyaki with Grandma for lunch Wednesday. That evening we attended the Thanksgiving Eve service at church. Miss Jan gave Henry his birthday present while we were there - a stuffed horse. He was SO excited to have his own horse! He named it "Stormy," after the horse he had ridden at the horse show (Later, she would also be known as "The Queen," who kindly invites her subjects regularly for tea and crumpets). This horse represents new power in Henry's life - he finally had a bargaining chip in order to have Micah let him play his guitar.
Henry was also delighted to receive his very own package in the mail - 2 Caps for Sale books from Aunt Allyson! "Caps for Sale" is Henry's current library book obsession that we read over and over and over.

We made a last minute decision to go to Grandma Roe's house in Hartford after church when we heard the weather report on the way home from church call for snow in the morning. So as soon as we got home, we threw our suitcases together and got on the road - we didn't arrive in Hartford, though, until 1am. Unfortunately, we didn't sleep so well and the kids seemed to be coming down with something.
But there was definitely excitement when we woke up in the morning and Henry could have donuts for breakfast at Grandma's to celebrate that he was now 3 years old!
It was a nice chance to relax, eat good food, and hang out with family.

We combined our Thanksgiving celebration with November birthdays - Bob, Henry, Levi, and Shannon.
Birthday cake AND pumpkin pie. Can't beat that!

Hooray for dessert for the birthday boy!
We spent the night again at Grandma Roe's and enjoyed a leisurely morning, playing cards with Poppa before heading back home.

Daddy took Henry shopping (after Thanksgiving sales for birthday gifts!) and came home with a basketball game and a sleeping bag. Henry insisted on sleeping in his sleeping bag on his bed that night.

That's one satisfied three year old!
