Henry really felt like a big boy when he tried gum for the first time this week. We were very clear - chew it, don't swallow it. He had it in his mouth about 2 min before he swallowed it. But he did get better after that initial try/fail and several weeks later he was chewing gum like a pro.
Henry was also proud of the bracelet he strung with beads (another great fine motor activity).
On Wed evening, we made a quick trip over to see Baby Bennett. Micah could care less - barely looking at Bennett before running off to play with Calla. But Henry was intrigued and repeatedly asked to hold Bennett. He would hold him for 10 seconds and then be ready to give him back. But after just five minutes, he would be back, asking for a turn to hold Bennett again.
We were impressed by Albert's warpaint. Apparently, he and Calla had had some fun earlier in the day.
Thursday morning the boys had fun dropping their homemade parachutes (from the science night) down the stairs.
It was good exercise to run up and down and take the parachutes to the top again. Plus, it was a good partner activity.
On Thursday, Micah also had this conversation with Mom...
Micah: For my birthday, I want to ask for 100... is it "money" or "dollars"?
Mom: Dollars
Micah: For my birthday, I want 100 doll... No, 150 doll... No 1,000 dollars. So I can buy a motorcycle!
Yeah right!
After dinner on Thurs, we loaded up the Mercury, put the kids' pj's on, and headed out on a road trip to NY.
By the time we got to the Rainbow Bridge at Niagara Falls, the kids were all sleeping and totally missed the Falls. Mom tried to snap a few photos to show them how the Falls look lit up at night, but it was hard to get a decent photo as we drove on the bridge.
Our timing of visiting NY intentionally coincided with a baby shower for Mom's cousin Wes and his wife Kim. Uncle Josh's family also came in town for the event. So Friday morning after breakfast, the guys went outside to play and work. Henry and Elijah joined Aunt Jen for sidewalk chalk in the driveway.
Micah, meanwhile, helped out the guys working on cleaning the eaves (a common occurrence when Poppa goes to North Tonawanda).
Poppa and Uncle Josh were up on the roof, putting the leaves into buckets. Then they would hand the buckets to Micah, lifted up by Daddy. Daddy and Micah would empty the buckets and return them with this same lift method.
Since the shed was open, Elijah and Henry quickly discovered the riding lawnmower and took turns "driving" it in the shed.
Teamwork at its finest.
As the work on the eaves drew to a close, Micah expressed a desire to climb up on the ladder. He wasn't necessarily interested in getting on the roof - just the ladder. He was thrilled to be allowed to do this!
Henry also was a helper that morning - finding sticks (and branches!) in the yard and taking them to the curb for pick up.
And once he heard that his brother was given permission to climb the ladder, you know that Roe boy #2 was all over that as well.
Micah also got his first introduction to using a hacksaw.
Not going to lie - Mom was a bit nervous about this. But Daddy carefully instructed and closely supervised.
Later, the kids played together indoors as well.
Later, while the gals attended a baby shower for Mommy's cousin Wes and his wife Kim, Great Poppa Moldy took the boys on a tour of the North Tonawanda fire station.
The firetrucks were definitely the highlight!
Had to get a generational photo with Poppa Moldy and Great Poppa Moldy.
Saturday we took the kids to see Niagara Falls. Micah had been there once as an infant, but this was a first time for Henry and Helen. Obviously, it wasn't too impressive for Helen initially. The American side of the Falls demonstrates a lot of freedom - there are many places where an adventurous and fearless two year old could get into trouble. So we were especially cautious about keeping Henry in the stroller or right next to us.
Micah by the Horseshoe Falls.
The Roe boys overlooking the precipice.
Mommy sure loves this view! Lots of good memories of this spot from her childhood.
Helen, still snoozing away.
The plants that grow on the rocks near the precipice - that is always a source of amazement for Mom.
Henry and the rainbow.
Looking at the Rainbow Bridge we had crossed Thursday night.
The American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls.
Henry with the Bridal Veil Falls (notice Mom's grip on his wrist!).
American Falls - a favorite view!
Helen finally woke up in time to enjoy a bit of the view.
And Daddy got a group shot of Mom and the kids at one of her favorite places in the world.
From the Falls, we headed straight back to MI. We did make a stop at a rest area in Ontario for some lunch. While waiting for Daddy to return from ordering our food, the boys began using the stools as a drum set (this is what happens when you are cooped up in a car seat for too long).
When we arrived at home, it was sprinkling but the boys were still desperate to be outdoors (and out of seat belts). So we threw on their swim trunks and rain boots and off they went, peddling in the rain.
Henry, especially, was absolutely delighted to be out in the rain.
Safety first - Micah is very good about making sure he wears his bike helmet.
Helen didn't go out in the rain, but she had a joyride of her own in the living room.
The rain cleared up the next day so Daddy could mow while the boys tooled around in their truck. A nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon!
Worn out from the long weekend!
