A Roe Party

We enjoyed a weekend at Jacob's parents, after almost 3 months absence. It was great to be together again!  There's just one Roe birthday in March - Uncle Isaiah's - but that's reason enough to celebrate and get almost everyone together. We traveled to Hartford on Friday night, enabling us to spend two nights there, much to Micah's delight. He is forever asking, "When can I spend the night at Poppa Roe's house?" On the way there, he asked, "What if we spent 100 nights there?!" We sure love our grandparents. :)

The boys wore their Roe Michigan shirts for the first time to cheer our favorite team on to the Sweet 16 as we enjoyed lots of basketball this March Madness weekend. Henry even started saying "basketball" to celebrate the U of M victory!

Saturday morning, Daddy spent time with his dad and brother Levi as they went out squirrel hunting. Micah was very excited to see what they "caught" when they came back. Let's just say the guys had a bit of excitement...
While the hunt was on, Micah, Grandma, and Mommy played Go Fish, Old Maid, Crazy 8's, and War. Later, when all the cousins arrived, we taught others how to play war. It was a game that the oldest cousins could play together on their own once they got the hang of it.
Unlike at our house, most of the snow has already melted at Grandma's house. But this meant their dirt driveway was actually a very muddy driveway. In fact, Uncle Chris and Aunt Beth's car got stuck when they tried to leave and Uncle Levi had to come back over and pull them out with his truck (but not before the women and children enjoyed a view from the bedroom of Poppa, Uncle Chris, and Daddy trying to push the car out).

Henry had his own muddy excitement. He REALLY wanted to go outside. Due to the mud, there wasn't a lot of outside activity this trip. So Henry took matters into his own hands. As people were arriving, the backdoor didn't get latched all the way. Henry saw the opportunity and took it. Uncle Bob found Henry, walking out to meet him in his stocking feet as he parked his car. What a muddy mess! Thankfully, Bob cut short Henry's journey outdoors before he got too far down the driveway ("Hey, look what I found... Is anybody missing this kid?").
Cousins Carson and Jackson brought along their puppy Lucy. Henry was quite entertained by Lucy (which may have helped him forget about trying to escape outside) and followed her around saying, "Puppy" for much of the day. It took him a while, but he finally got the nerve to pet her. He was also intrigued by her food and water bowl. Mommy put the food bowl up on the counter after Henry seemed to want to sample it. And Henry was later content, and very diligent, about feeding Lucy the dog food - one piece at a time. Thankfully, Lucy was also interested in this arrangement. Unfortunately for Daddy, Lucy's dog food looks similar to chocolate chips. However, after putting a handful in his mouth, he quickly realized they do not taste like chocolate chips!
Not to be outdone, Henry found a quiet moment when no one was in the kitchen, and decided to try to go swimming in Lucy's water bowl (soiling his second pair of socks for the day). This kid keeps us on our toes!

It was a fun family weekend. After the long winter where we didn't travel much, it was nice to get out and motivated us to want to go back to Hartford again soon!
